Interview between Bridget Chappell of Watch This Space (Mparntwe-Alice Springs), Hen Vaughan of FELTspace (Tarntanya-Adelaide ), & Melissa Brave of Dusty Radio (Umoona-Coober Pedy) about the 2022 Coober Pedy Artist Camp

Do you like being dusty?
Do you wish you could go back to school camp as who you are now?
In Coober Pedy?

The Coober Pedy Artist Camp 2022 is a collaboration between two Artist-Run Initiatives: Watch This Space (Mparntwe-Alice Springs) and FELTspace (Tarntanya-Adelaide). Last year, they decided to meet in the middle, in Umoona-Coober Pedy. This year we are excited to return, and are seeking expressions of interest from artists based in the Northern Territory and South Australia to join us.

The program will see artists help shape a participatory curriculum in the lead-up to the camp, culminating in four days in Coober Pedy during the 2022 Opal Festival. Artists will have the opportunity to learn from and collaborate with folks from Dusty Radio, the Coober Pedy Library, Umoona community, and other local hives of knowledge.

Artists receive:

  • $300 stipend
  • Shared dugout accommodation
  • Return road travel to Coober Pedy
  • Big communal food shop for cook-ups

Key dates:

11 April: EOIs close
15 April: Successful applicants notified
1 May: Curriculum commences
16-20 June: Camp takes place in Coober Pedy
